Simply put, recent state legislation has diminished the power of locally elected County Board Members, municipal leaders, and other locally elected officials and forces residents to accept potentially dangerous and costly utility installations in their neighborhoods.

THE ISSUES
Springfield has passed laws taking away your County's and municipality's power to say where commercial solar arrays, wind turbines, and battery storage sites go. A fourth bill could soon do the same to housing developments, allowing up to eight units where one stands today.
-
These are 20- to 40-year projects. Once a solar field or battery site is approved, it is not coming out.
-
Your County or municipal government cannot deny, move, or set stricter rules for these projects anymore. State law overrides them.
-
This vote is your only chance to put your voice on the record before more of these decisions are made without you.
ONE VOTE. ONE CHANCE. DECADES OF CONSEQUENCES.
The question on every McHenry County Ballot this fall will read:
Should the Illinois General Assembly repeal the state laws that prevent McHenry County and other local governments from exercising full zoning authority over the siting of commercial solar, wind, and battery energy storage facilities and residential developments, and restore that authority to county and municipal governments?
YES ___ NO ___
Vote YES to tell Springfield to give McHenry County its zoning authority back.
Note that this question is advisory in nature and cannot force Springfield to repeal laws, but will send a strong message that their voters do not approve.
When the state can do a better job of running itself, then IT can come and tell the counties and MUNICIPALITIES how it's done!

take action now!
If you approve of Springfield legislating one-size-fits-all zoning decrees, then do nothing. However, if you believe in the right of the people to elect their municipal and County Officers and, and further believe that distributed power and representative government are the cornerstones of our great country, then spend a couple seconds to send the message that you disapprove of this ridiculous power grab.
